Prerequisite: Grade 11 English
This senior level English
course is a compulsory requirement for the Ontario Secondary
School Diploma. The course emphasizes the consolidation of
literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Students will analyze a range of challenging literary works
appropriate to the visits they will make to sites in and
around London, Oxford, Edinburgh and Dublin. They will write
analytical and argumentative essays and a major paper for an
independent literary research project. They will apply key
concepts to analyze media works. An important focus will be on
understanding academic language and using it coherently and
confidently in discussion and argument.
ENGLISH,

Prerequisite: English Grade 10
This course
introduces senior level, university bound students, to
significant literary works that reflect major themes in
literature. It emphasizes the development of literacy,
critical thinking, and communication skills. Students analyse
poetry, essays, novels, and plays from various periods;
conduct research and analyse the information gathered; write
persuasive and literary essays; analyse the relationship among
media forms, audiences, and media industry practices.
Selections will also include exposure to Scottish and Irish
writers and will provide opportunities to experience the
relevance of various works in London, Oxford, Edinburgh and Dublin. An
important focus is an understanding of the development of the
English language. Students will examine the structure and
techniques used in the variety of literary pieces.
Mathematics of Data Management, Grade 12, MDM4U
Prerequisite: Grade 11
Functions, University prep, or Grade 11 Functions and
Applications, University/College prep
This course broadens students' understanding of mathematics as it
relates to managing data. Students will apply methods for organizing
and analysing large amounts of information; solve problems involving
probability and statistics; and carry out a culminating
investigation that integrates statistical concepts and skills.
Students will also refine their use of the mathematical processes
necessary for success in senior mathematics. Students planning to
enter university programs in business, the social sciences, and the
humanities will find this course of particular interest.
WORLD
HISTORY, GRADE 12, THE WEST AND THE WORLD CHY4U
Prerequisite:
Any university or university/college prep course in
Social Sciences and Humanities, Canadian and World
Studies, or English
This course investigates the major trends in Western
civilization and world history from the 16th Century to
the present. Students learn about the interaction
between the emerging West and other regions of the world
and about the development of modern social, political,
and economic systems. The setting in England, Scotland &
Ireland provides a historical context that
will inspire a true sense of history. The skills and knowledge
developed in this course enable students to understand and
appreciate both the character of historical change and the
historical roots of contemporary issues.
