Join us on a unique journey of Europe in Amsterdam, Berlin, The South of France and Florence to explore bustling cities, unique contemporary artistic cultures and major works of art. This is your chance to be inspired!
We begin our trip in Amsterdam, a city that has one of the largest historic centres in all of Europe. Along its spiraling canals we will visit Anne Frank House, to learn a bit about the social history behind this part of the world. Students will also have the opportunity to explore some of the most renowned art museums in the world dedicated to the old masters, including the Rijksmuseum which is the largest museum in Europe, the Van Gogh museum and the Rembrandt museum. Visits to Contemporary art museums and galleries will also be included to expose you to different mediums and materials for your course that covers history, architecture, design, photography, philosophy and theatrical productions.
Our next stop is Berlin, a city rich in history that is known for its eclecticism, its contemporary architecture, and its avant-garde arts; the perfect combination to move any young aspiring artist! Here we will visit Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dedicated to the arts, as well as the East Side Gallery, the longest work of art in the world. You will visit the Bauhaus Museum and Building, one of the original design schools that today is devoted to innovation in art and design. To further your understanding of German culture and how it has affected German art we will also be exploring some of the major historical sites in this political melting pot.
Then off to Tuscany to immerse ourselves in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Florence. We experience the extensive contributions to the world of art at the famous Uffizi Gallery to view original works by Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci, both of whom were born in Florence. Then off to the Academy where the famous masterpiece of “David” is housed! And during your free time you can enjoy this vibrant city by exploring its shops along the River Arno and the outdoor markets – this is the place to bargain with the shop keepers in true European style!
On this program you will have the option to visit one of the oldest organic farms in the hills of Tuscany for a day to take part in an art class, cooking class or to learn some basic Italian and the meaning of the many Italian gestures, and experience some of the traditional tasty foods!
We then move to the South of France to enjoy the lively Côte D'Azur (French Riviera) and Provence. We reside in Antibes/Juan Les Pins an area once inhabited by Phoenicians and Romans - situated along the Mediterranean Sea. Here you will see archaeological remains, Cathedrals and Chateaux - one of which was Pablo Picasso's studio - leading to the Marche Provencal with colourful displays of local foods, fresh flowers and other unique delicacies of the region. You will be in the heart of what is Southern France!
There are several cities and towns nearby we visit including the bustling cities of Nice, Cannes, St. Tropez, and Monaco to experience the stunning beaches and coves, seaside cafes, narrow streets, quaint shops and the many cliff top villages so typical of this region. The weather in the south is considerably warmer so you will be able to enjoy the incredible roof top pool with a spectacular view at your residence or find a spot on the beach to enjoy the blue Mediterranean waters a short walk away.
