EXPERIENCE THE ARTS:, Interdisciplinary Course, GRADE 12, IDC4UPrerequisite: Any university or university/college prep course in Social Sciences and Humanities, Canadian and World Studies, or English This course will help students develop and consolidate the skills required for and knowledge of different subjects and disciplines to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning, and present findings beyond the scope of a single subject or discipline. Students will apply the principles and processes of inquiry and research to effectively use a range of print, electronic, and mass media resources; to analyse historical innovations and exemplary research; and to investigate real-life situations and career opportunities in interdisciplinary endeavours. They will also assess their own cognitive and affective strategies, apply general skills in both familiar and new contexts, create innovative products, and communicate new knowledge.
ENGLISH, GRADE 12, UNIVERSITY PREPARATION ENG4U Prerequisite: Grade 11 English This senior level English course is a compulsory requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The course emphasizes the consolidation of literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students will analyze a range of challenging literary works. They will write analytical and argumentative essays and a major paper for an independent literary research project. They will apply key concepts to analyze media works. An important focus will be on understanding academic language and using it coherently and confidently in discussion and argument.
PHILOSOPHY: QUESTIONS AND THEORIES, GRADE 12, HZT4U Prerequisite: Any university, or university/college prep course in Social Sciences and Humanities, English or Canadian and World Studies This course addresses some of the main areas of philosophy: metaphysics, logic, epistemology, ethics, social and political philosophy, and aesthetics. Experiencing the birthplaces of philosophical thought in these regions will provide an enhancement that sets the stage for inspiring learning. Students will learn critical-thinking skills, the main ideas expressed by philosophers from a variety of the world's traditions, how to develop and explain their own philosophical ideas, and how to apply those ideas to contemporary social issues and personal experiences. The course will also help students refine skills used in researching and investigating topics in philosophy.
Photography, Grade 11, University/College
AWQ3M This course is for students who wish to build on their knowledge and abilities in photography (particularly digital photography) and expand their unique artistic expression. Students will learn about photographic history, discuss various techniques and technical quality, and discuss post digital processing. They will analyze photographic works of different genres and artists and analyze, interpret and critique their own work and those of other students in their class. Lighting, special effects, and computer manipulation will be covered.
Since we are travelling to various destinations abroad students will visit various galleries and museums to view art works and explore art history which will include both Canadian and World art forms. Being stationed abroad will be a great opportunity to develop your skills in an inspirational environment with varying types of landscape, monuments, and unique cultures as your subjects.
Topics will cover history, Fashion, Portraiture, Humans vs. Nature, Fine Arts, Photo Journalism, Corporate Marketing Photography, and Travel and Tourism – focusing on the countries you are visiting.
A select number of students’ photographs will be chosen by Global Journeys’ Marketing Staff to be used in GJ promotional material (brochures and website) and can be used for your future portfolios.

Photography, Grade 12 , University/College AWQ4M Prerequisite: AWQ20 or AVI20 Visual Arts, Open Recommendations: AWQ30 This course will further develop established technological and design skills and your photographic practice giving you the opportunity to create a professional portfolio in preparation for post-secondary education or to use the skills you learn in careers that require a creative flair. History, present trends and the future of photography will be discussed.
You will be able to use your personal experience abroad in this course while travelling to various sites and destinations – meeting locals, photographing their life and expressing your perceptions of your travels and those you meet during your adventures. This course provides an opportunity to expand your boundries and artistic expression!
