March 10 - 17, 2012

(Dates subject to change)

Join us for a Service Learning Project in Bermuda to participate in a reforestation project on Cooper’s Island which will assist with the return of endemic and native plants and birds such as the Bermuda Long Tail and Cahows, followed by a beach clean up to preserve the Green Turtles. Children from a local Bermuda school will join us on our Conservation Projects and team up with students on a Marine Life Identification project while snorkeling, ending with some fun recreational activities at the station.

Bermuda has a sub-tropical climate and consists of about 350 islands which are volcanic in Origin. Over 130 of these islands are coral islands  - and in fact this is the location of the northernmost coral reef in the world.

Associated with this area are the pink coloured sandy beaches and clear turquoise waters for which Bermuda is well known - surrounded by hundreds of shipwrecks and abundant marine life.

During our stay in Bermuda, we reside at one of the world's oldest and most renowned research stations - the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Science (BIOS), situated right on the water where we can fish, swim and snorkel.

Scrumptious huge breakfasts, lunches and dinners are included in your program along with bonfire evenings which are so much fun!

During our free time we will sail out on a research boat to Nonsuch Island to see native trees, plants and birds including the once thought extinct bird species (Cahow); we will sail to North Rock - an area off the main island - and spend hours snorkeling on the reefs to experience the incredible marine life including squid, groupers, seahorses and giant brain corals; we will visit the Bermuda Aquarium to view the huge Green Turtle conservation project; and we explore hidden caves with an opportunity to swim amongst the stalactites and stalagmites.

Of course there will be time to shop, visit the 400 year old forts and towns, enjoy some of the tasty local rum cakes, swim at the beach, or join in a soccer, football or ultimate Frisbee game on site at the station!
