Program Cost: $2250

March 10 - 18, 2012

(Dates subject to change)

This is an incredible program and a popular one!

Join us for an adventure filled trip to a country named for its Rich Coast, to experience the Pura Vida (pure life) of Costa Rican culture, trek through the lush Central American Rainforest, and live amongst some of the most unusual and spectacular flora and fauna and of course – relax at beautiful beaches!

Our residence will be at a biology research station in the spectacular Cloud Forest of Monteverde with our very own private waterfalls where you can swim! The views are amazing at this station - expect to see white faced monkeys, sloths, unusual birds and other species as we explore the forests that surround your residence. Traditional foods are prepared daily all with local fresh ingredients for breakfasts, lunches and dinners which are included in your program.

Conservation and preservation of the breathtaking forests, flora and fauna is key in Costa Rica and we will be guided through the dense cloud forests and rainforests to view diverse species of birds and amphibians on both day and night walks.

Costa Rica is known for its sanctuaries, plantations and commitment to organic farming. Our group will have the opportunity to tour coffee, pineapple and aloe plantations and view the most beautiful and colourful butterflies that can be as large as the size of a human hand!

Our journey continues on to La Fortuna region, to visit Volcán Arenál – a stunning volcano which has been constantly active since it awoke after 400 years of being dormant!  We then head to the Tabacon Hot Springs nearby to soak in the naturally heated pools at the foot of the volcano filled with waters coming from Arenal and with temperatures ranging from 26C to 41C. An amazing site you will never forget and once you get in you will not want to leave!

To further experience the tropical forests you will view the area while situated high up in the canopy and if you are adventurous, you can head back down to earth on the zip lines – where you slide down on cables through the foliage! Several volcanoes and waterfalls are located all over the country and our group will hike down to La Fortuna Waterfall where the waters come crashing down into a pool situated in a dense forested area. And yes - you can go swimming here!

We end the program sailing around several islands in the gulf, swimming at pristine beaches and participating in water sports.

You also have the option to join us for a day of volunteering your time to assist in local reforestation projects - hours which can be used towards your Community Service Diploma Requirements.

This adventure offers a complete Costa Rican experience enabling you to enjoy the culture, language, and wonderful people in a lush tropical setting.
