Program Cost: $3960 March 9 - 18, 2012 (Dates subject to change)
Join us on this amazing journey through Vietnam where we will venture from the northern rural regions to the lively southern parts of the country.
We will start in Hanoi where we explore the old French quarters riding a rickshaw and wander through the old narrow streets, markets and shops.
We then travel by train overnight to the Lao Cai region and reside in the French colonial town of Sapa situated at the foothills of the highest mountain range in Vietnam. Experiencing the local market in central Sapa where the various ethnic groups trade and buy produce and supplies will give you the opportunity to see their traditional wares highlighting their diversity.
From Sapa we will trek for a full day ending at the Red Tsao Village - this hike crosses mountain trails, canyons and incredible landscape with rice paddies, creeks, and corn fields. Along the way we will encounter several unique minority groups that reflect this region, including the Black Hmong and Tsao people while trekking to their village.
We move on to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay and board a ship, called a Junk, for a 2 day tour at sea to view the spectacular cone shaped rock formations and the floating markets and villages.
Finally, we fly to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon), located in the southern part of Vietnam and visit several important sites including the War Remnants Museum and Cu Chi Tunnels which reflect the country’s turbulent past and the Cao Dai Temple, a multi-coloured uniquely designed structure - part cathedral, part pagoda, part mosque. Of course you will have time to explore the bustling city of Ho Chi Minh with its 3.5 million mopeds where crossing the street itself is an adventure.
