While in
Australia:
Outer Barrier Reef/Snorkeling
Full Day Excursion
Although we visit the
Low Isles as part of your program you may wish to head out again to
experience the underwater world of unique colour and marine life in
protected lagoons at the edge of the Outer Reef. You will sail out
in a catamaran and have the opportunity to snorkel (wet suits are
provided), ride in a semi-submersible, or view the coral reef and
its inhabitants from the comfort of the underwater observatory. A
huge lunch buffet will be served on board where you can relax and
enjoy this sailing and snorkeling experience.
While in Bay of Islands,
New Zealand:
Dolphin adventure
Half Day Excursion
We will sail around the
Bay of Islands into warm and deep waters to have the amazing
opportunity to view marine mammals in their natural habitat. The
success rate of viewing bottlenose and common dolphins is very high
and there is a good chance we will also see a variety of whale
species, penguins, fur seals and sea birds as we sail further on our
excursion. You have the choice of putting on a wet suit and taking a
swim with the dolphins but keep in mind that depending on weather
and sea conditions on the day of our excursion, there may be
restrictions on what we can see and do. Disposable underwater
cameras are a good idea to bring along, if you want to get snapshots
of your memories!
Cape Reinga and 90 Mile Beach
Full Day Trip
Lunch Included
New
Zealand’s most northern point – Cape Reinga - is where the Tasman Sea
and Pacific Ocean collide and is thought by the Maori to be the
departure point for spirits. Cape Reinga is home to amazing
subtropical forests and spectacular coastal views and we travel along
the west coast first to visit some very old forests and beautiful
beaches, and try some boogie boarding. But the real purpose is to stop
at the Sand Dunes where you can spend some time sliding down on dune
boards….kind of like tobogganing - without the snow! After visiting
Cape Reinga we then drive along the east coast to head back to our
home base in the Bay of Islands.
While in Auckland,
New Zealand:
Rangitoto
Island
Half Day Excursion
We
board a boat and cruise to Rangitoto Island – New Zealand’s youngest
volcanic island, with Auckland’s largest volcano! Upon arrival we jump
on the 4WD road train along with our guide to travel through
spectacular scenery with unique flora and fauna to the base of the
summit cone. Then it is time to hike along the 900 meter boardwalk to
the top of the volcano and experience the incredible panoramic views
of Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf. After walking around the rim of the crater
and into the lava caves we head back to the wharf for our return
journey to our home base in Auckland. Make sure you bring good walking
shoes, a water bottle and lots of film!
Our programs are enhanced by
additional excursions which go beyond the focus of the course
and give students the option to explore areas outside of the
region in which our programs are located, in a supervised
environment with private coaches and guides. Schedules and costs of these excursions are
provided to students in March.
