Global Journeys
would like to welcome you to our fun, educational, and committed
programs dedicated to providing exceptional and unique experiences
to students in the upper levels of high school. On this page you
will find all the information you require to make an informed
decision about our organization - we are an open book!
The
Team and Staff:
Our accomplished
‘behind the scenes’ team organizes, operates and directs all the
programs we run. The years of experience that we have in this field
allow us to run each program with expertise! And each itinerary is
designed to enhance the learning experiences of our students,
based on the program location and courses offered.

About Us
This was the
best experience of my life! I had such an amazing time and
really improved my French too! Staying at a university
campus in Paris is a really good experience because soon, we
will have to be making some choices and it gives a good
taste of university life. I truly will cherish this
experience forever!
Students:
Students who join
our programs come from schools all over Canada and the USA, and have
a keen interest in expanding their boundaries. Participants are
toured around cities where programs are held to experience
the many districts, world renowned landmarks, and quaint spots they
might otherwise miss - and all of this is included in the program.
In addition, we offer exciting excursions outside of the region in
which we are based – for those who wish to take the option to
explore beyond the program.

The Programs:
Global Journeys is
committed to offering students an incredible experience on many
levels. The educational component exceeds Ontario Ministry of
Education guidelines by giving students the opportunity to
experience what they are actually studying. Each program is
specifically designed to directly complement
the course content as students progress through the material. And
at the same time have fun! Our unique trips
combine well-known locations with extremely interesting and relevant
lesser known locations and in this way we hope to expose students to as much culture as possible.
Accommodations:
Students will
reside at 3 – 4 star hotels or at university campuses that are all
centrally located and provide easy access to many
amenities including shopping, monuments, and restaurants to explore
during their
free time. Contact us if you would like any more information
regarding the accommodations at each location. And check some of
these out!
This trip has
been unbelievable!
I can’t count all the things I have done
and seen. I know that the friends I’ve made and the memories
I have shared are going to last a lifetime! In all the fun
I’ve been having this summer I have still managed to earn a
credit in Biology!
Teachers:
Our qualified
Certified Teachers from schools across Ontario, along with staff and supervisors have had
years of experience in the education and travel fields and will
offer students a memorable and incredible learning experience.
Naturally, security and safety of our student participants is one of
our main concerns, and we take this seriously by providing
appropriate supervision and by monitoring world situations daily.
Education
Component:
The importance of
the educational
component of our trips is second only to the safety of each
student.
Although these trips are designed for the student’s enjoyment, the
quality of the course is crucial. After all, students in most cases
will be using these courses for university entrance
applications. Each course is meticulously reviewed and accredited by the world renowned institution Appleby
College, a private school located in Oakville. The
material is required to meet Ontario Ministry of Education
guidelines, and with Appleby’s approval of the curriculum, each student earns a
credit that will be listed on their transcript at their home school.
The credits are transferable for out-of-province participants as
well, and each student is advised to consult their guidance
counsellor to obtain approval. Our
Academic Director will follow up with the student's home school
to ensure guidance/student services is aware of a student's
participation.
Summer 2004
Greece/Italy was the most worthwhile experience of my life
so far. The credit, although the reason parents send their
children, is but an added bonus as the real purpose is to
open the doors of the world to Canadian students. The class
work is quite the compliment to the breathtaking
sights….This experience truly changes lives, as the students
grow together, both socially and intellectually. Global
Journeys made for the best summer of my life, introducing me
to lifelong friends and the beauty of travel!
The Global
Journeys program provided me with an opportunity of a
lifetime. Although I was learning Grade 12 English, I ended
up learning much, much more. Mr. Wright is a fabulous
teacher; I will forever love English because of him. The
workload may have seemed heavy, but looking back now I
realize that that's the sort of work ethic I'll need for
University. The program was a great means of preparation.
Global Journeys introduced me to some wonderful people with
whom I'm still friends with and keep in contact!
Leaders:
Our leaders, as
are our teachers, are selected from applicants across Ontario and
return with our programs year after year. All staff who are chosen
to work with Global Journeys are
required to submit to a police background check along with
references, and must have extensive teaching and travel experience. Our leaders are well
traveled individuals who have a passion for sharing their
experiences with students and are prepared to provide students with
additional assistance in
their studies!
Get in touch with
our past Teachers/Leaders if you would like more information on
their experiences with Global Journeys.

Classrooms:
To make the most
of the experience abroad, we believe in combining classes held in
actual classrooms, conference rooms or lecture halls with classes
which are held at
relevant sites in the country we are visiting. For example, the Colosseum in Rome becomes the backdrop to
your discussion about the politics of ancient Rome and Classical
Civilizations; a cafe in France becomes the place to practice your
French; and the barrier reef in Bermuda or Australia, teaming with
marine life, is the ideal setting for a few of our Biology
classes.
Safety and
Security:
Safety is one of our
key concerns - we have meetings with students prior to departure to
go over all details and on arrival
an orientation session is set up to ensure
students are aware, comfortable and knowledgeable of our
surroundings, cultural differences, and locations and cell numbers of all staff.
Students are informed of all our "rules" in advance and are expected
to adhere. Students are not allowed to head out on their own unless
they are in groups of 3 or more and no
overnight stays outside of residence are allowed. Students are
not allowed to drive motorized vehicles and can only ride in
motorized vehicles with family with written permission from parents.
We have a curfew which students must abide by and any behavior which
is deemed unacceptable will be dealt with immediately and is taken
very seriously.
