ENGLISH, GRADE 12, UNIVERSITY PREPARATION ENG4U Prerequisite: Grade 11 English This senior level English course is a compulsory requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The course emphasizes the consolidation of literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students will analyze a range of challenging literary works. They will write analytical and argumentative essays and a major paper for an independent literary research project. They will apply key concepts to analyze media works. An important focus will be on understanding academic language and using it coherently and confidently in discussion and argument.
CANADIAN AND WORLD ISSUES: A GEOGRAPHIC ANALYSISGRADE 12, UNIVERSITY PREPARATION CGW4U Prerequisite: Any university or university/college prep course in Social Sciences and Humanities, Canadian and World Studies, or English This course provides students with an opportunity to examine, in an international setting, the challenges of creating a sustainable and equitable future through the study of a range of topics including; economic interdependence, geopolitical conflict, regional disparities in the ability to meet basic human needs, and protection of the planet’s life-support system.
The first unit familiarizes students with the issues relating to human an environmental geography and introduces them to the skills and technology used in geographic study. The focus of unit two is world interdependence at all scales; international, regional, and local. In the third unit, students are introduced to the study of geopolitics and the importance of homelands to cultural groups. In unit four the focus is on how different social, economic, and cultural differences can influence people’s attitudes towards resource sustainability. The last unit encompasses the course culminating activity based on a global issue not covered in the course.
This study in an international setting provides each student with a fresh context for examining some of the most important issues of our time.
Challenge and Change in Society, Grade 12 HSB4M Prerequisite: Any university/college, or college preparation course in Social Sciences and Humanities, English, or Canadian and World Studies This course examines the theories and methodologies used in anthropology, psychology, and sociology to investigate and explain shifts in knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviour and their impact on society. Students will analyze cultural, social, and biological patterns in human societies, looking at the ways in which those patterns change over time. Students will also explore the ideas of classical and contemporary social theorists, and will apply those ideas to the analysis of contemporary trends.
International Business, Grade 12 BBB4M Prerequisite: None This course provides an overview of the importance of international business and trade in the global economy and explores the factors that influence success in international markets. Students will learn about the techniques and strategies associated with marketing, distribution, and managing international business effectively. This course prepares students for postsecondary programs in business, including international business, marketing, and management. |
